As if the Coronavirus hasn’t caused enough damage to global health security, some seem to be pushing a stupid agenda which is to stir racism. Despite the scientific classifications, some politicians such as Donald Trump and Nigel Farage have latched onto a different name for the coronavirus, one with racist implications: “Chinese virus.”
This has led to increased prejudice, xenophobia, discrimination, violence, and racism, mainly against Chinese people and people of East Asian and Southeast Asian descent and appearance around the world.
As of 22 of March 2020, the coronavirus had infected more than 300 thousand people worldwide, over 13 thousand death as I speak, 4800 in Italy alone.
So, the virus not only affected China but also Italy, Iran, Spain, Germany, the US, and more.
Among the hate crimes reported in major American cities, a Chinese woman gets attacked for wearing a mask in New York City and an Asian man in a Brooklyn subway car was yelled at and sprayed with Febreze air freshener.
Asked why he keeps calling the coronavirus the “Chinese virus” when scientists say the disease doesn’t respect borders and is not caused by ethnicity, Trump told reporters at the White House that he doesn’t consider it a racist remark.
Trump indicated his terminology was a warranted pushback to Chinese officials who have been suggesting the U.S. military might have introduced the virus to Wuhan, the Chinese city where it was first reported in late 2019.
Despite the rise of anti-Asian violence and racist rhetoric, China is sending a team of medical experts to help Italy battle the coronavirus, while the EU and the so-called allies of Rome have abandoned the country of love. Beijing also provided similar assistance to Iran and Iraq to contain the spread of the respiratory virus.
Not only that, the Chinese billionaire Jack Ma earlier this week promised to send 100,000 face masks, 20,000 test kits, and 1,000 medical protective suits to each of 54 African nations. According to the South China Morning Post, Jack Ma also donated 500,000 coronavirus test kits and 1 million masks to the United States.
Besides the medical aid of Russia and China, Cuba also sent 53 health professionals to Italy, to help contain the new coronavirus pandemic. The 53 doctors and nurses have experience in caring for these types of diseases. In 2014, they travelled to Sierra Leone in West Africa to fight the Ebola virus.
So, ladies and gentlemen, we are faced with two models of global governance: one that champions humanity and one that sponsors barbarism. I hope this video can make up your mind on the morality of supporting the rise of a multipolar world.
