Syrians in Germany were prepared to participate in the presidential elections but they were surprised by the decision of the Merkel government two days before the elections to ban them from voting in the Syrian embassy. This didn’t stop them from gathering though, as patriotic Syrians demonstrated on Thursday, 20.05.2021, to express their rejection of the decision of the German government, and the Syrian community hold a symbolic election near the Syrian embassy in Berlin.
On the other side, the sympathizers of the FSA and other anti-Assad groups also demonstrated calling for more sanction on the Syrian people and the removal of Assad by the U.S. coalition. Ironically, they were also carrying Palestinian flags.
