
President Bashar al-Assad delivered a historic speech to the Syrian people after securing another seven-year term in Syria.
Syria’s parliament speaker, Hammouda Sabbagh, announced the final results from Wednesday’s election, saying Bashar Hafez al-Assad garnered 13,540,860 votes or 95.1%. Sabbagh said Assad’s two challengers, Mahmoud Ahmad Marei and Abdullah Salloum, got 470,276 and 213,968 respectively.
