There have been multiple protests in Israel against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent years. Netanyahu was in power for a total of 16 years, from 1996 to 1999, from 2009 to 2021 and then re-elected on 29 December 2022. During his time as Prime Minister, Netanyahu was involved in several corruption cases, leading to protests calling for his resignation.
In 2019, after Netanyahu was indicted on charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust and the protests continued throughout 2020 with demonstrators calling for Netanyahu’s resignation and for the establishment of a new government.
More recently, protests against the proposed judicial reform by the government of newly re-elected prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu are now being held in several Israeli cities. If passed, the so-called reforms will limit the power of the Supreme Court and of the government’s legal councillors and grant the governing coalition a majority on the committee that appoints judges.
While the demonstrations against Netanyahu intensify, which threatens the fall of his government, Tel Aviv claimed an armed militant crossed the border into Israel from Lebanon and carried out a roadside bomb attack on Monday.
In this report, we try to answer the following question: with Israel’s internal unrest reaching unprecedented levels, will Benjamin Netanyahu wage war on Lebanon?
